Free New Software from Microsoft

Bill GatesBill Gates on his visit to Indonesian President, Dr.H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Thursday (8th May 2008) in President’s Office, Jakarta, offered free new Microsoft software for school’s computer equipment, begin in 2009.

Mr. President didn’t mentions how many software that will be contributed by Microsoft. The amount will highly depends on how many computer unit provided by Depdiknas (National Education Department) for the laboratory of middle and upper education.

Concerning this, Mendiknas (National Education Minister) admitted yet many of the junior high school, MTS, SMA and SMK have no computer laboratory facilities. But the available units in 70% JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL and 45% SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL around our country, Indonesia, have exceeded of computer units, and the specification could accommodate the Microsoft software.

Although Bill Gates’ offer was very arousing, but the government not directly said received the offer. There is still a large number of technical details must be need further discussion for its application rule in the future.

“I am afraid of our children become highly depend on and will be used to Microsoft software in the future. That means that I have helped their marketing ha.. ha.. ha…” joked Mr. President.
