Suggestion for a Longer Stay in Paris
March 31, 2008 – 11:38 amThere is so much to see and experience in Paris - the treasures in its museums, its picturesque quarters, its magnificent avenues, boulevards and palaces, its landmarks and viewpoints, fashion, shopping, cuisine and festivals- that three short walks scarcely begin to do justice to it.
Those with more time at their disposal should certainly not miss Montmartre and the Sacre-Coeur, the a a Centre Pompidou, and the evocative turn-of-the-century shopping arcades or take a stroll in the Bois de Boulogne or the enchanting Parc des Buttes- Chaumont, and see at least one of Paris’s cemeteries with graves of prominent figures.
Then there is the Parc dens La Villette, one of the major attractions for children, with its Cite des Sciences et de l’Industrie, Cite de la Musique and huge spherical cinema. Also very popular with young and old alike are the Vincennes zoo, the spectacular Grande Galerie at the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, and the a Musee Grevin (waxworks) in the boulevard Montmartre.

All types nightlife can be enjoyed in Paris
The a Musee de Cluny has a collection of furniture, jewellery and medieval weaponry. And for a comprehensive survey of modern architectural history where better than La Defense, the booming business quarter with its huge Grande Arche, a contemporary restatement of the ideals of liberte, apatite et fraternize.
With yet more time available there are many things to see in the environs of Paris (see Practical Information, Excursions). They include the famous palaces at a Versailles, Fontainebleau and Rambouillet, and the basilica of Saint-Denis, for more than twelve hundred years the burial place of all but one or two of the French kings.
Children will want to make a beeline for Euro Disney, at Chessy, 30km/18 miles outside Paris. The Parc Asterix, a theme park dedicated to Gaul’s favourite hero and his friend Obeli, is an excellent value for money alternative. Le Pays France Miniature at Elancourt, about l0km/6 miles south-west of Versailles, features scaled-down models of old French farmhouses, cathedrals and the el-Meaux o the Loire
